.....and so it begins

Stardate 2112.262, Jammy Jo and Jammy Mo commit to the Speed of Light, boldly going where no other couple have gone before. The Speed of Light  - what's that all about? It's a running event, it's public art, it's a performance - it's a once in a lifetime opportunity.

We got involved with the project back in August 2011 when we agreed to meet Angus Farquar, through Catrin Kemp to discuss a role as a run leader for their upcoming trial of concept. So that was how we ended up in a car park at  Holyrood bumping into some well kent faces and some now familiar faces on a blowy August night. Alarm bells should have started ringing when we were asked to turn up kitted up to run! It's fair to say we were hooked right away - Angus is one of these people who exudes enthusiasm. The meeting took us up on to Arthur's Seat and a reccie round the routes to be used for the Speed of Light and an insight into what was to be asked of us.

The following week we were back on Arthur's seat leading a pack of runners round those routes in patterns emailed to us the day before. After the bulk of the 80 runners on the hill disappeared home and darkness fell we were fed and watered, suited up in the light suits. We headed for the hills, and suddenly we were lit up. I can't possibly put into words how exhilarating it was being in the light suit and lit up. Once on the hill it was mind-blowing. If you can imagine the high you get when you bag a PB and muliple it tenfold, it doesn't come close. After the first night there was no way we were going to miss the planned second night, this event is going to be a once in alifetime experience. All that remained was to work out how we were going to juggle life to be involved in this event.

Fast Forward to December 2011 and we were invited to apply for the positions of Run Leaders. Again we had no doubts that we wanted  to do this. We both felt that if we didn't do it we would regret it for the rest of our life. So we got our application in and today we discovered we would be part of the team in August 2012.

What we intend to do is take you through the training, our good days and our bad days. Through the winter we have been training with the Speed of light in mind, basically following a marathon training schedule without going beyond 17 miles. So join us in our journey, through the high and lows as we go through the journey and the other challenges that we will do along the way.
